‘Sunday Thoughts’ ~ The Magic Of Morning

“When I first open my eyes upon the morning meadows and look out upon the beautiful world, I thank God I am alive.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Good Sunday morning,  dear friends.  I hope this finds you well and enjoying a lovely morning.  In my opinion, mornings are the best time of day.  The birds are singing, the air is cool,  and all of nature seems to be happy to greet the day.  I find the early morning is such a beautiful time to be alone with my thoughts, be still, watch the sunrise, and count my blessings. And, to wander the garden to see how busy the garden fairies were during the night.

There are many talented writers who also seem to have had a fondness for the early morning.  In going through my ‘little book of special things’ I have found a few lines I hope you will enjoy.

“Why I Wake Early” ~ Mary Oliver

“Hello, sun in my face.

Hello, you who made the morning

and spread it over the fields

and into the faces of the tulips

and the nodding morning glories,

and into the windows of, even, the

miserable and the crotchety.  . .

good morning, good morning, good morning.

Watch, now, how I start the day

in happiness, in kindness.”

Possibly, just possibly,  the world would be a sweeter place if everyone began the day in ‘happiness and kindness.’  I wish I knew how to make it so.

“. . . the older I get the more treasures and hope and joy I find in mornings.” ~ Terri Guillemets

“Outside the open window, the morning air is all awash with angels.” ~ Richard Wilbur

I agree with Terri Guillemets, the mornings always provide hope and joy.  Isn’t it a glorious thought to think of the morning air being “awash with angels”?  Perhaps, that is why the morning is so sweet and enjoyable.

Not only is the air lovely, but the morning light is divine and one never knows what they may discover.

Dear friends, I hope you have enjoyed your visit.  There is much more I could say about this magical time of day, but I do know everyone’s time is precious, and I do not want to take your time reading a lengthy post.  However, if you are not a morning person perhaps my thoughts will inspire you to ponder the many gifts that are always provided for our morning enjoyment, especially during this special season of dazzling beauty.   All we have to do is wake up and bask in the splendor of a new day.  What an amazing privilege.

Wishing you and yours a gorgeous and peaceful day.

And. . .

May every day, in the week ahead, begin with a lovely and joyful morning, just for you.

“A morning glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books.” ~ Walt Whitman

  1. Good morning, Sandra. Early mornings are my favorite time of day before the sun rises and everything is still and quiet. It is my personal quiet time and it prepares me for the day. I love opening the door and hearing the birds chirping and smelling the fresh air. Thank you for sharing your most beautiful images, quotes, and sentiments. Wishing you and Michael a love day!

    1. Good morning, Pam. I had you figured to be an early morning person. It truly is the best part of the day. Wishing you and your lovely family a beautiful Sunday and week ahead.

  2. I do love mornings. I remember being a child living on a lake. I would wake up early and walk down to the dock and watch the fog roll over the water. It was a special time of the day. Have a great week ahead!

    1. Good morning, Penny. What a beautiful memory. I do love morning fog. It is magical to me. Wishing you a lovely day and week ahead.

  3. I love mornings too. Getting up early is my routine. The quietness is so pleasant. I get up before daylight and love viewing the stars and moon. It is a worshipful time. Then the sunrise never disappoints.
The birds and seeing new flowers in my garden is a delight.
Your images and quotes are all beautiful.
    Have a lovely week.

    1. Good morning, Bonnie. I do appreciate your lovely comments. I agree with your every word. We had a gentle rain last night and my goodness, the garden was gorgeous in the morning light. The birds were all in tune – it was and always is quite the sight, for which I am so grateful to enjoy. Wishing you a beautiful day and week ahead.

  4. A sweet tribute to early mornings, Sandra. I was not always a fan of early mornings, especially in the days when hurrying to get off to work was the necessary speed. I truly disliked those rushed mornings. But having since retired from the workforce, early mornings have become a cherished time of day for me. Waking with unhurried quietness to journal, be with my own thoughts, listen for the Divine, watching the sun rise … it is a gift I never take for granted.

I wish you a beautiful day and week ahead.

    1. Good morning, Brenda. I agree with you regarding the working days. I had to be out the door and on my way so early. But I have enjoyed every morning since retirement. Mornings are such a treasure. We have a blue sky morning here, hope you do also. Wishing you a lovely day and week ahead.

  5. Sandra, I loved this morning’s post! I agree with you so much….morning is a magical time and the best time of the day! Wishing you a most beautiful week ahead, sweet friend!

    1. It is, isn’t it? I especially love the garden in the morning, after a nice rain. Wishing you also, a beautiful week!

  6. It’s afternoon as I read your post, but I do love mornings. I’m not a particularly early riser, but always have more energy in the morning and like to get things done! Beautiful morning scenes.

    1. Thank you for your visit, Lorrie. I have more energy in the morning as well – it has always been that way for me. Have a happy week!

  7. I loved our morning visit, Sandra! (Is that Monet’s garden behind those lovely green doors?) Morning can be so very lovely. So is this post.

    1. Good morning, Jeanie and thank you. I wish I knew where that happy and lovely photo was taken, but I have no idea. Wishing you a lovely week full of beautiful mornings.

  8. Love this post, Sandra, as I am such a morning person myself. My day starts so peacefully with this bit of time to get lost in my own thoughts, have time to start my day in prayer before the flurry of activities that can take precedence, and hear & smell the day unfolding before me. We were very blessed w/ the invitation to enjoy a friends cabin in the Pocono mountains the past two weeks and, since Mike is working from home now, it was quite the treat to go somewhere after being cooped up for over a year. I did a lot of early morning walking in the woods, enjoying this beautiful spring in all it’s glory. Hope the week ahead brings you many lovely mornings to enrich your days, my dear friend.

    1. Good morning, Bobbi. How wonderful that you were able to enjoy such a spot at this glorious time of year. The woods are so pretty dressed in the magnificent green of spring. Spring is slowly unfolding here and we have had lovely gentle rains at night. In the morning the garden looks so clean and fresh. I sit on my bench and thank God for all my blessings. Wishing you a beautiful week, full of lovely blooms.❤
