     Good Sunday morning, my friends.  I hope this finds you enjoying a lovely autumn morning.  We have cooler temperatures this morning, but certainly not like the October mornings I remember from past years.
     In our area, we are in desperate need of rain.   Our governor has declared a “State of Emergency,” for our entire state, due to our extremely dry conditions, “no outside burning or fires of any kind.”  With the majority of “Wild and Wonderful West Virginia” being heavily forested land, and the Appalachian Mountain System covering nearly two-thirds of our state, dry weather can be a huge factor in forest fires. 
     Speaking of the weather, here is something else to ponder.  Old mountain folklore tells us, “Your winter will be as cold as your summer was hot.”  I don’t know about you, but right now, a long cold winter sounds quite lovely.

Even though our seasons are changing,  we can carry our memories of past autumns in our hearts, can’t we?  Times of walking along, under a brilliant blue sky and kicking the leaves.  Wearing sweaters, corduroy skirts, and wool jackets.  And, who remembers hay rides?  They were even better than high school football games, at least in my opinion.  Such fun.

  5. It did not rain at all at our house in September. We are waiting and praying for rain. Hoping we both get rain soon. Our temps are down a little and it is amazing what 10 degrees cooler feels like.

  7. Sandra, we flew back home to WV on Sat evening (early), and there was hardly ANY color over the hills, so disappointing! Believe it or not, there were fireworks in Charleston as part of the Rod Run Doo Wop event. They were huge, and a surprise, given the Governor’s mandate for fire. Here’s hoping fall is now here to stay. I was happy for the rain we’re now having. Have a good start to your week.

    1. Rita, we have a slight golden tinge to the trees on the hills in our area. I feel they are going to dry up and fall. We are having rain today also, but we need a week of it. Hope you had a wonderful trip.

  8. Ah, Sandra, I am sorry to hear about your rain emergency. From experiences here in Alberta, I do know about how troubling that is, especially when your state has so much woodlands areas. I shall say a little prayer for rain. Yes, dear Lord, please.

  9. Hi Sandra, what a striking image to start us off. I gasped, really, I did! And I’m pulling out the corduroys and wools, too, heavy sweaters. I am hoping you will be getting some rain to ease the fire danger. If that proverb is true about warm summers/cold winters, I’ll be glad on my end. Our summer was anything but hot and I wouldn’t mind a warm winter!

    1. Hi Jeanie, I think we should move to Mich. I thought we left summers full of 95 plus temperatures when we left VA. It was dreadfully hot here this summer. I hope you do have a mild winter.
