‘Sunday Thoughts’ ~ Memorial Day, 2022

” Memorial Day ~ A day set aside to honor our loving memories of the brave souls who fought for our freedom. . . ” ~ Unknown

Dear friends, with all the chaos in our land, Memorial Day rather crept up on me this year.  Certainly, it is not because I don’t feel the day is important.  Memorial Day is one of our honored traditions. To me, it is and will always remain a day of honor, recognition, and gratitude.  A day to say ‘thank you’ to those who made the ultimate sacrifice ~ dying to preserve our freedom.

Know I wish you and yours a lovely day.  Hug the necks of those you love, and be safe.

This Memorial Day, I feel it is more important than ever to reflect on our past and present decisions regarding issues that face our nation.  Not just for ourselves, but it is vital for little boys who like to go fishing and dream of becoming a doctor.  And little girls who like to ride ponies and just know that one day they will be president.  To enjoy living in a nation where all children can play, be educated, and follow their dreams ~ whatever they may be.  We have to do better by them.  We sincerely owe them a better and safer world.  We certainly had one.

“If peace is a state of harmony, if it is a kind of wholeness or completeness, then we will never find it by running away from broken things and messy places.” ~ Christine Purifoy

  1. What a wonderful post to see this Sunday morning. (OK — if it’s time for truth, I didn’t know it was Memorial weekend till last Thursday and I didn’t realize it was Sunday until I saw the NYTimes in my driveway. My brain has vanished during my treatment and I want it back! I wonder what those who fought so hard for our freedom and democracy in wars past would say if they could see us now? Or those who died fighting the war of fascism? But on a happier note, I hope you have a beautiful holiday, one in which you can enjoy your garden and just relax. I can’t believe it’s nearly June.

    1. Thank you, Jeanie and I wish you a Rick a beautiful weekend. I simply don’t want to know what those you fought and gave so much would think of us. And I don’t think it is your treatment that has taken your brain. I think it is the chaos in the world. Truly, it is enough to drive one mad. We are in the 90’s today, so we may or may not eat outside. Carolina Barbeque is on the menu and it is good no matter where it is eaten.

  2. Good morning, Sandra. Thank you for a most beautiful post. Wishing you and Mike a restful Memorial Day as we remember those who paid the ultimate price for our freedom 🇺🇸

  3. Good Morning Sandra. The picture of the little one fishing reminded me of growing up on my lake and fishing, without a care in the world. My heart breaks everyday now. xoxo

    1. Hello, Penny. As children, we didn’t have cares or worries and that is what childhood is all about. The heartbreaking daily occurrences and overwhelming. Wishing you a good weekend.

  4. Hello Sandra,
It’s good to remember those who sacrificed so much for freedom. We in Canada do that on November 11. It is indeed a different world for children growing up now, and we must do all we can to provide security and peace for them to be able to fulfill their dreams.
    Have a good week!
